Optimising biogas production
Langage Farm, a leading producer of ice creams, yogurts, and clotted cream in Devon, UK, also operates an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant to process their waste food. The plant produces electricity for their factory and fertiliser for their land, creating a closed-loop production system.
The presence of packaging materials like cardboard and plastics in the food waste posed a challenge, as disposing of this contaminated, wet, and heavy waste was expensive. Langage Farm needed a solution to reduce the volume and weight of this waste while ensuring efficient operation of their AD plant.
The introduction of the RUNI SK370 proved to be a game-changer for Langage Farm. The RUNI SK370 efficiently compresses the reject from the AD plant, squeezing out 50-60% of the liquid and significantly lowering the overall weight and volume of the waste.
Despite operating in harsh conditions with acidic food waste, the SK370 demonstrated durability and reliability with minimal downtime.
Gary Jones, Managing Director of Langage Farm, emphasises the machine’s cost-effectiveness:
”The RUNI cost is paid for purely in its saving of weights in disposal. It pays for itself very quickly.”
“Our SK370 runs roughly 12 hours a day on a 5 day week and 4-5 hours on a weekend. We’ve had it for 6 years and we’ve had no downtime with it whatsoever. The SK370 in our system just sits there trundling along in one of the most horrible environments there is and is flawless.”
